The Seven Deadly Sins:
Lust, Avarice, Gluttony, Envy, Pride, Sloth, Wrath
Lust, Avarice, Gluttony, Envy, Pride, Sloth, Wrath
A comment ficathon with a very simple theme - your prompt must relate somehow to one of the 7 Cardinal Sins. Perhaps it's that character A can't control their attraction to character B? Or does C have something that D desperately covets? Does pride come before a fall? And is there such a thing as too much of a good (or bad) thing? Prompt away in the comments, and others should come along to write a story for you.
ALL FANDOMS ARE WELCOME. ALL PAIRINGS ARE PERMITTED.
Here are some sample prompts to get you thinking:
Harry Potter, Snape/Lily, the many reasons why Snape is jealous of James Potter (ENVY)
The West Wing, Jed/Abbey, there's one apology he hasn't made yet. (PRIDE)
Glee, Brittany/Santana, she just doesn't want to get out of bed (SLOTH? LUST? you decide)
Rules (short and sweet):
one ★ : One prompt per comment in the following format: fandom, pairing, prompt, e.g. Game of Thrones, Cersei/Ned, she's jealous of his freedom. You don't have to prescribe which sin it falls under - the author can decide.
two ★ : One story per comment. Please put a title, the fandom and the pairing IN THE SUBJECT LINE. This way people can find the fills easily.
three ★ : Any fandom, pairing, rating is welcome. This includes slash, RPF, RPS and just about anything else you can think of. The only exception is no underage characters.
four ★ : A prompt can have more than one fill. Please try to write as well as prompt, if you can.
five ★ : If you like it, put a ring on it. Or at least leave a comment saying as much! Keep flaming/bashing elsewhere, this is for fun

on 2011-08-11 12:53 am (UTC)When Rhaegar died (Rhaegar who refused to marry her, refused to worship her as Jaime did) Cersei knew that she would simply be moved into the next most suitable match her father could find; her father found her a King.
Robert, before going to seed (and spreading his seed in every whorehouse in King's Landing) had been a tolerable match. Glory rested easy on his shoulders once upon a time, allowing Cersei to bask in its reflection. Now she's following him to the hinterlands of the Seven Kingdoms and cursing him every step of the way. There's no glory to begging a favor of an old friend.
He's bringing her here as punishment: to place her in direct competition with the ghost that haunts their marriage. Lyanna Stark lies mouldering in her tomb, and still Cersei can't hope to compete. She's been channeling that spite into every stolen afternoon with Jaime, and pretending it doesn't sting. Four people in a marriage is unworkable, but the King and Queen must maintain their pretense.
Cersei watches Catelyn Stark from across the main yard of Winterfell, careful not to be caught staring. The Tully woman is tall and proud, and despite her quiet "Your Grace"s and half-smiles, Cersei knows Catelyn's temper to be as fiery as her hair. Yet the woman accepted her second choice without complaint, a lesson lost on Robert and his maudlin romance with a corpse and a few fading memories. Catelyn traded Brandon for Ned, and somehow found a kind of happiness along the way; the luck of it makes Cersei want to spit.
It's easier to understand though, because despite his boring nobility and gruff Northern ways, Ned Stark is a disgustingly good man. He even acknowledges his bastard, an anomaly among the Kingdom's ruling families. Cersei has watched him prowl these buildings with those great muscles straining beneath leathers and furs, looking every bit the gracefully aging warrior that Robert should have been. Cersei can't help wondering if he still treats his wife as a lover, instead of seeking out whores every night that isn't lost to a drunken stupor.
Could she seduce him, she wonders idly? Assert her authority as his Queen and let him take her in a hidden, drafty room somewhere in this miserable keep? Would he refuse her and hide behind marriage vows? Cersei can't be sure, and that's novel in itself.
Sometimes she thinks that it might have been different, had she married the right man. A man who loved her enough to make her choose between him and Jaime; a man who loved her enough to want her all to himself. Cersei watches Catelyn fuss over one of her ruffian children, raised like wolves instead of men, and smirks at the thought of taking all this from her.
The clatter of hooves herald the returning menfolk, with Ned Stark leading from the front. Cersei watches him slide from the horse and stride across to greet his lady wife. She chooses her steps carefully on the frosty ground, and turns away.
Jaime is waiting, and this is not her life.
